What Parents Need to Know About Marijuana

Being a parent can be hard. But getting support doesn’t have to be.

What Parents need to Know About Marijuana
Wednesday, March 29th from 6:30-8:30pm
at Burlington High School’s Library
This event is free. No registration is required, however please let us know if you are attending by RSVPing to our Facebook event.

Marijuana is the most widely used illicit drug among youth today and is more potent than ever. The chances of our kids encountering marijuana in their tweens and teens have increased.

During the teen and young adult years, your child is especially susceptible to the negative effects of any drug use, including marijuana. Evidence has shown that marijuana use during the teen years could potentially lower a person’s IQ and interfere with other aspects of functioning and well-being. Even the occasional use of pot can cause teens to engage in risky behavior, find themselves in vulnerable situations and make bad choices while under the influence.

This interactive presentation with Licensed Drug and Alcohol Counselor, Margo Austin, is designed to teach parents about changes in research, trends, and myths relations to marijuana so they can feel prepared and comfortable to have conversations with kids about use. The presentation will be followed by an opportunity to ask questions from a panel of local experts and discuss with other parents the impact of marijuana use on our kids.

PANELISTS:

Margo Austin, LADC – Student Assistance Program Counselor at BHS
Abigail Matchette, LICSW – Centerpoint Services Clinician
Dr. Jill Rinehart, MD – Pediatrician at Hagen, Rinehart, Connelly Pediatrics
Dr. Jon Porter, MD – Director of UVM Center for Health & Wellbeing
